Conway Christian's Eagles left Poyen with an 11-7 conference victory Monday night.

The Eagles started off strongly with a leadoff walk and a two-run home run by Jacob Calloway.

“We just got started off on the right track,” CC coach Shane Davis said.

The Eagles built their lead to 11-1 through six innings. Poyen fought back with two runs in the seventh.

Starting pitcher Ezra Wiley was 2-for-5 with three RBIs for the Eagles, and both Tanner Stevenson and Ashton Robinson were 2-for-4. Lance Nail walked five times and added four runs to the Eagles scoreboard.

Wiley held strong on the mound for five innings, striking out six, walking just one, and allowing five hits. Wiley took home the victory for the Eagles, with Nail getting the save.

“This was a good game in conference, and it was on the road," Davis said. "Those on-the-road conference games are big."

The Eagles were scheduled to face Heber Springs on Tuesday, but the game was cancelled because of rain. They will head to Mt. Vernon-Enola on Thursday for a 4 p.m. game.

Panthers come up short to Central

After holding a 2-1 lead for four innings, the Greenbrier Panthers came up short in a close contest with the Little Rock Central Tigers, losing, 3-2, in a non-conference game Monday at Panther Field.

The Panthers got off to an excellent start, scoring two runs off Trent Virden's double down the left-field line. Unfortunately, the bats went quiet after the first inning, and the Panthers did not score again.

Greenbrier was held in check in most part due to the superb pitching of Central's Daniel Imbry and Brandon Schmidt. Imbry and Schmidt combined for seven strikeouts and allowed five hits.

"The bats just died on us," Panther coach Terry May said. “We just couldn't take advantage when we had runners on."

After the hot start in the bottom of the first, Greenbrier managed just four hits the rest of the game.

In the bottom of the fifth, after getting runners on second and third, Greenbrier's 4 and 5 hitters in the lineup both struck out, ending a hopeful scoring opportunity.

“We got off to a good start, but then we just didn’t catch any breaks for the rest of the game," May said.

The Panthers will be back in action Friday as they take on Huntsville at Panther Field.

After not allowing their opponent to take the lead once, the St. Joseph Bulldogs downed the Mountain Pine Red Devils, 10-2, Monday at Curtis Walker Park in the Bulldogs' first conference clash of the season.

The Bulldogs didn’t take long to get their lead started, scoring in the first two innings. Chris Rega kept St. Joseph’s hot streak going with a home run in the third. Mountain Pine managed to scrape two runs in the following inning, but the Bulldogs kept expanding their lead. In the bottom of the sixth, St. Joseph tallied three runs to set the final score at 10-2, sending the Bulldogs to an early conference victory.

St. Joseph earned two of its sixth-inning runs on errors, something Mountain Pine coach Justin Gregory said hindered his team’s chances.

“We made too many mistakes,” Gregory said. “Fielding, throwing, batting, all around made mistakes, and they took advantage of every one of them.”

St. Joseph coach Luke Davis said his team deserved the victory.

“We played good baseball throughout the game,” Davis said. “What really helped us was our base-running. Our guys were always in scoring position, which gave us more opportunities to be creative at the plate.”

The Bulldogs take on Hector Thursday at Curtis Walker Park in Conway.
