Bulldogs improve to 4-0 with win at Rural Special

By Hunter Brooks
The St. Joseph boy’s basketball team improved to 4-0 on the season by defeating Rural Special, 61-37, on Nov. 7.
Despite winning by 24 points, St. Joseph coach Brent Bruich said the team didn’t play up to his standards.
“We didn’t shoot the ball very well,” he said. "We shot 21 of 59 from the field and had a lot of looks that we just didn’t make. We had too many defensive breakdowns. They (Rural Special) hit nine 3s on us. We just can let a team do that to us. We got to be smarter and follow the game plan better.”
Senior Drake Cooper led the Bulldogs with 11 points. Junior Jensen Thielke and senior Taylor Schrekenhofer both added nine, while senior Landon Enderlin and juniors Dylan Schrekenhofer and Nash Nichols each contributed eight.
Although the Bulldogs are undefeated, Bruich said the schedule was about to get tougher.
“We have tougher teams ahead,” he said. “(Southside) Bee Branch will be tough. When Greenbrier comes, we will have our hands full. But it’s good for us and it will help prepare us for conference.”
