The St. Joseph Lady Bulldogs golfers closed their season Thursday with a third-place finish at the Class 2A State Golf Tournament at Greystone Country Club in Cabot.
The Lady Bulldogs shot a team score of 356 in the tournament, which stretched over two days because of rain. Senior Melissa Hambuchen shot 110, while juniors Caroline Dail and Isabella Hartman shot 111 and 134, respectively, to round out the team score. Senior Savannah Covington shot 135.
Spring Hill won the team championship, shooting 299. Foreman shot 335, finishing second among the field of 12.
St. Joseph coach Chris Kordsmeier was proud of the team’s performance this season.
“We had three new girls this year,” he said. “It was the first time they ever played on a team, so to come in third is very good. Melissa did a great job a being a leader for this team, and the new girls performed very well for their first-ever state tournament and season overall. I’m very happy with the way the season went.”
The 18-hole tournament finished Thursday after rain postponed play Wednesday.
“It was a real grind,” Kordsmeier said. “There were tough playing conditions, and the rain didn’t help.”
The Lady Bulldogs qualified for the state tournament after winning the 3-2A District Tournament at The Links at Cadron Valley on Sept. 22.
