The St. Joseph Lady Bulldogs will compete in the Class 2A State Golf Tournament today at Greystone Country Club in Cabot.
The 18-hole tournament will start at 9 a.m. St. Joseph coach Chris Kordsmeier said the tournament would be St. Joseph’s first 18-hole tournament of the year.
“Our girls and most of the other teams haven’t played 18 holes this year,” Kordsmeier said. “It will be a test of endurance, both mentally and physically. Our girls need a positive attitude because there will be good shots and bad. It’s a battle of survival and will be the ultimate mental challenge this year.”
The Lady Bulldogs qualified after winning the 3-2A District Tournament at The Links at Cadron Valley on Sept. 22. It will be St. Joseph’s first trip to the state tournament since 2011.
Kordsmeier said Greystone will be the toughest course the Lady Bulldogs have played all season.
It’s a tough course,” he said. “It’s very long and hilly. It’ll look like nothing they’ve played on all year but I am glad we had had a chance to practice on it this week. I feel like we have as good of a chance as anybody.”
St. Joseph will be one of 12 teams competing for the state title.
The team consists of seniors Melissa Hambuchen and Savannah Covington and juniors Caroline Dail and Isabella Hartman. Hambuchen took medalist honors at the district tournament while Dail finished second overall.
The top three scores will count for team purposes. The top three individuals will qualify for the Arkansas High School Overall Championship.
